Week 31: Book to Film Extravaganza!

It has been such a fun week as we've watched "The Giver". Students have really focused on comparing and contrasting, but then, asking "why"?  This goes to director choice/audience and intent. I'm so proud of them to see this has really sparked some higher level discussions and thinking. Analzation helps students think and it's fun! I'm so pleased with what they have done this week.

Remember Monday is a PLC short day and Friday begins the Easter break (see details below). Thanks for the continued support and encouragement! Please email or call me (652-4742) with any questions. Enjoy your week!

Week 30: Finishing "The Giver"

I am really enjoying this group of students. We've had the best literature discussions lately--the depth of their knowledge and analysis is a wonderful thing to be part of. I love teaching no matter what, but I find myself really looking forward to each day as I watch students really dive into literature and learn from it.  The power of literature analysis comes with developing not only reading skills, but deepening understanding, reflecting and seeing how literature themes connect to our lives. "The Giver" is a compelling piece of literature and I'm thrilled to see students enjoy it as much as I do.

This week, we'll come very close to finishing the novel. Again, the focus is on context clues, vocabulary, and theme. The following week we will move into the movie and analyze director choices and interpretation vs. author choice. I am sending home a  PERMISSION SLIP on Monday with students. "The Giver" movie is PG-13, the permission slip explains it all. I will need to have it back on Wednesday.

STUDENTS: Remember if you miss a day, it's your responsibly to make-up the reading and daily notes. To help you out, I'll have them all here "The Giver" Reading and Assignments.

Thanks for the continued support and encouragement! Please email or call me (652-4742) with any questions. Enjoy your week!
