- The "Michael Vey" series by Richard Paul Evans
- "Fablehaven" and "Candy Shop Wars" by Brandon Mull
- "Middle School" series by James Patterson
- "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series by Jeff Kinney
- "The Strange Case of Orgami Yoda" (series) by Tom Angleberger
- If your child likes princess tales: "The Wide Awake Princess" by E.D. Baker

- Graphic Novels (these appear like thicker comic books but they are higher in vocab. and comprehension and are excellent for kids who don't love to read.)
