The Highly-Detailed LONG Version:
I grew up with a father who taught shop and a mother who was an elementary school teacher.  Needless to say, teaching is in my blood.  I remember my dad giving me an old school desk and I used it to create “school” for my brother and myself.  From a young age, I would gravitate to teaching and nurturing activities.  There is a great deal of satisfaction to help someone and see the light of understanding in their eyes.  When I had children of my own, teaching became an integral part of my life.  I knew that as my children grew and went to school, I wanted to finish my education and began teaching in the classroom.  I am passionate about the English language, literature, reading and writing.  I want to be able to bring that enthusiasm into the classroom and equip students with reading and writing skills that will benefit them throughout their life.  Teaching is the career for me.  I can fuse my love of children, of helping and of the language arts together to really make a difference in the lives of the students I will teach.

I am someone who is personable and sincerely cares about people.  I like to make people laugh and smile and I get a great deal of joy from serving others.  My life has been focused around children for many years and my love of children is the motivating factor in my desire to educate.  I am someone who doesn’t settle for less than my best and I am honest and dependable.  I am also kind and like to help others feel at ease around me.   Reading and writing are as natural for me as breathing and are my favorite things to do.  I am a published author with work appearing in small and local publications.  It is my dream to publish YA novels because there is never enough good literature! The problem is that I get so busy with other things that I never make time to write! I also love the outdoors and I can be found hiking, biking and taking pictures along the way.
I am beyond excited to have a teaching career here at Lava Ridge Intermediate School.  I was fortunate enough to student-teach with Mrs. Leany and I fell in love with the school from the start.  I believe learning should be FUN!  I want each student to really believe that they can succeed at whatever they wish and I will equip them with the tools to do so.   I also think every student is SMART in different ways. Part of the fun about teaching is discovering how your child learns and creating opportunities to help them excel.
As mentioned above, I do have MS. I was hospitalized and diagnosed in December of 2016. MS is an autoimmune disease effecting the central nervous system which causes my body to erode the mylien sheathing around the nerves. This can cause communication between my brain and body to misfire. MS is not contagious and there is no cure. MS looks different for everyone. My main symptoms range from numbness, fatigue when I'm in the heat, the inability to process gluten, etc. I am very fortunate to be in remission right now and am currently successfully managing with disease-modifying shots I do three times a week, diet changes (no sugar, gluten or dairy), and maintaining an active lifestyle.

MS is known as an invisible disease--students will rarely notice anything different about me and unless the unforeseen happens, I'll be in school each day loving what I do with a smile on my face. My immune system is not stellar, so I would encourage students to stay home if they are sick & use hand sanitizer, which I have in abundance, when they are in my room. I'm very open about my MS life, so feel free to ask questions anytime. My blog about living with MS: http://mysocalledms-eduplife.blogspot.com/

My dog, Sally

When I'm not at school, I'm usually out hiking and taking pictures of the beauty around us and finding desert tortoises:)

Here are a couple of my favorite places to travel! I love being anywhere with water:)
