Week 7 Update and Schedule

Hello Everyone,

I'm excited for another awesome week with 143 of the best 7th graders in the school!  There is a lot going on this week you should be aware of:

1.  Book-to-Film Book Reports are due on Wednesday, September 26th. Please see an earlier post for the details.  Students will need to attach the 2 yellow Pre-Writing Venn Diagrams to their book report form.  I'm looking forward to reading them!  Remember, those who turn work in early will receive an additional entry into the monthly raffle and a candy!

2.  Parent/Teacher Conferences are Wednesday and Thursday from 3-6:30pm...come in anytime and meet with me.  I realize not everyone can come, but I'd LOVE to meet as many of you as I can and discuss how we can help your student improve.  The school will be sending information home this week with additional detail.  The Scholastic Book Fair will also be set up with the Little Theater.  They have some fantastic, and affordable, books so check it out!

3.  It's A Job Unit begins this week.  It's a fun way to teach parts of speech and paragraphs in the context of exploring jobs and really getting students thinking about their future.  This unit is an important one, equipping the students with knowledge of parts of speech and writing paragraphs.  Not only does this fulfill requirements of the Common Core and prepare students for CRT testing, but it gives students the foundation for becoming articulate writers.  Regardless of the career they may choose, the ability to write well can ONLY help them succeed.
I'll be introducing parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, etc.) by having students fill out a foldable and watching clips from "School House Rock" to help them remember what each part of speech does.  It's going to be a fun week!

4.  Utah-in-the-News: The previous post lists who has Utah-in-the-News this week.  Remember, students need to find an article in Utah, staple it to the back of the Utah-in-the-News form and summarize the article in a paragraph using their own words.  Please be prepared on your day to present!

Just a reminder that I am available to help students before and after school.  If students miss a day, they need to check the blog or their planners to see what they missed then come talk to me before or after school (there isn't time in class for me to show students what they miss during class).

Please email, call or meet with me if there are any questions.  It's been such a great year so far and I am enjoying every day with my students!
